Announcing Photophone 7We are currently building a new version of the successful Photophone product. This has been re-architected from the ground up to give advanced capabilities to our customers. The projected release date is March 2006
The existing versions of the product are PC / laptop based and communicate point-to-point via TCP/IP or modems (land lines and GSM / HSCSD / GPRS). The development platform for the new version is the Microsoft Windows DotNet Framework 2.0 for PCs and the Compact Framework 2.0 for PDAs and Smartphones.
The new version will add to the capabilities of the product:
1. Enable PDA and Smartphone devices to participate in Photophone sessions for interactive working and streaming.
2. Enable full multi-party sessions between all type of devices supported.
3. Utilise 3G capabilities on device or via modem to enable or enhance streaming and interactivity.
4. Provide industry standard security and full audit facilities via a secure server-based connection manager.
Architecture:
Connection Manager
The job of the Connection Manager is to: accept, authenticate and authorize calls from clients; establish a session, securely if necessary; route information to each client, formatting it as required for the capabilities of each individual client's platform and bandwidth; and maintain, via a database, an audit trail of all actions and data for an incident.
A Connection Manager would be required on each machine that wished to accept calls, there would not be this functionality for PDA or Mobile Phone devices - they would always dial out.
Client:
The client's job is to: capture data and images for transmission; accept and display data and images from remote clients; real-time interaction with remote clients.
Platforms
We are using the following platforms:
Server: Windows 2003 server, SQL Server 2005.
Workstation: Windows XP Pro SP2 with DotNet Framework 2.0 & SQL Server Express.
PDA: Windows PocketPC Mobile 5 with DotNet Compact Framework 2.0.
Mobile Phone: Windows Smartphone Mobile 5 with DotNet Compact Framework 2.0.
